Federal is useless for reloading
I have tried to get on the forum and call CMP with no luck. All the Rack, Field and Service M1's are out of stock. Are there still good buys in the store location? Maybe more coming to the online orderings? I did order on of the expert (new stock and barrel) and would still like a more historical rifle. I am US Army retired, did my BCT right there in Anniston, 1986 Ft. McClellan.
As far as I know, they are still actively doing sales. I DO know that they recently had to go through some sort of audit/inventory procedure and everything got delayed from that. Thanks for watching!
That 2500 is weak. It needs a more powerful motor and the brass movement was very slow.
@@Rico11b Possibly too much brass in it? Mine works great but, I will say the smaller one is faster.
Wow! Great Video! Thanks!
@@esanchez12043 thank you and thanks for watching!
The Nosler RDFs are awesome !!
On the gold forester plate where you say the bullet wobbles just turn it around problem should be solved no more wobble of the bullet.
One would think that might work but, the holes are identical without any "shouldering" to accommodate the ogive. That's also not a workable solution as one side of the dial has indexing dimples to sit on a small ball bearing so that there's a "position lock" when attaching to the black body of the datum dial. And the black body is necessary to be able to attach to your calipers and to have a cavity for the tip of the bullet to go into as it protruded beyond the gold dial. Thanks for watching and for the comment!
Hey Crusty, you do USPSA too?!?! I'm a recent subscriber after viewing your load development video. I shot USPSA for quite a few years, mostly in the 2000's. There was an older guy - former marine - that was fun to be around. He would remark that we were all under the same flag when talking about the different military branches. (I was Air Force '72-'76). I wonder how Roger is doing?
I do! I shoot F Class Open, NRA/CMP HP Service Rifle, IDPA and USPSA. USPSA is probably what I shoot the least. Unfortunately, I don't know Roger and... ALL of us Marines are "fun to be around" haha Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Thanks for putting this example together and sorta overlapping the load development techniques. I've tried most of these techniques and seem to end up back with the OCW method. When using the OCW method i choose the load which has adjacent groups that impact in the same general location. In your example this would be the 24.9 to 25.2 span. Next I would try some seating depth testing to see if i can reduce the group size a little more. Sometimes i will notice the velocity change per change in powder charge weight will be less too. I look at that as a 'plus' to choosing that load. I actually don't look at sd and es until I'm done. Generally the sd is single digit which is another 'plus'. Brass prep can make a big difference in this regard. It took me a while to realize I was the biggest variable in my load development process during the range portion. Firing a consistent group was hard for me to do. I'm getting better and more consistent now so that helps load development outcome.
Thanks! Seating depth isn't a variable I could really play with for Service Rifle except on the 600 yd loads. It's interesting how the Nosler RDFs in both 77gr (SR) and 140 gr (6.5 CM) worked out to be so close on the jump. I've got a good video dealing with Seating Depth on my 6.5 Creedmoor here ruclips.net/video/YAk96gSewuw/видео.html
There guys out there that rebarrel these things. Was considering one, no thanks, I’ll stick to my Beemans.
Thanks for your tips on rear bags. I Shoot an RPR also, and this review is very relevant to me. Looking for a good bag rider so I will check out your info on that too. Thanks!
After viewing several tests by different people using several chronographs at the same time. The Labradar is providing the correct speeds.
I would tend to agree with that. When I use the numbers from it in my Balistic Calculator, it's usually within an 1/8 MOA elevation at 1000 yards
8:35 “Bonus Room” 😮😂
You’re not qualified to rate any air gun. You’re a really average shot for your average experience. You have a very nice air gun. You have no experience.
Haha, OK, I guess High Master S.R, Expert IDPA, Master F Class Open, USMC Expert Rifle 10th Award, USMC Pistol Expert makes me a very average, inexperienced shooter. I don't have any air gun certs and don't care too. And, the Hatsan IS a piece of junk. Thanks for watching
That’s awesome man!
Thank you
Yes what's the number to Gamo
I believe you can learn a lot from 3 shot groups. Every time I go to the range I shoot several 3 shot groups. I keep a record of every trip I take after several trips and many groups I take the average. I think that works great for hunting rifles and I never fire fouling shots just like I wouldn't on a hunting scenario
And, I like using photoshop to overlay groups on each other for comparison. You're spot on for a no-fouling, cold bore shot for hunting!
It would be helpful if you would do a video on setting up excel with the formulas to give the SDs, ESs and graphs. I can work it out on my calculator, but never did it on excel. Great content!
I'm no excel guru. But when I get caught up I may make on video on that...expect much editing...lol
@@CrustyOldMarinethat would be great. I love statistics (yeah, I know), but I used a calculator. How much more helpful would it be for organizational purposes to lay it out in excel to keep my notes. So, thank you for considering doing this. I’m sure I’m not the only one that would love to have someone else chew their food for them.
Thinking about doing annealing with an automotive inductive heater like yours. Looks like you made the coil, and I suspect it is lower inductance than the standard coils that come with the unit. Coil inductance affects frequency. Just curious if you verified the operating frequency with your coil in place?
I have no idea what the frequency is and, I saw no need for an insulated coil. I used drill bits to wrap bare wire coils in 12, 10 and I think an 8 gage copper wire. Make it just barely larger than the diameter of the brass case body of the round you're annealing. I also found that 5 coils vs 4 was much better to get a decent time. E.g. 1.8 ish seconds for 5.56 and 3.8 for 6.5 CM. I make the "off" time at least 2x what the on time is for cooling.
Great information, I know will put a couple ways into my next development for my results. I have always done a five shot group for a node and also look at velocity to what I am trying to accomplish.
I just started a proper F Class Rifle build that will be 7 PRCW. I used this on my 6.5 Creedmoor and, I will use the EXACT same load development method for the 7 PRCW. It has worked wonderfully so far
That's not a good setup for f open . Not sure why you would choose that gun , that cartridge, that bipod , really any of it , are you shooting only in a local match woth some odd rules ?
You're not wrong but, there was a lot of thought and reasoning into the choices. A. I was (still am) a Service Rifle Shooter. F Class seemed like it might be fun to try. So, get a rifle that doesn't break the bank to test the waters AND a rifle that can do other things well; PRS, Hunting, etc. B: Get a "decent" rifle to learn on...I might not like F Class or, be any good at it. C: It takes a while to get a fancy front rest. Next best thing in my mind was the AccuTac. I was shooting solid expert score with that. I now have a SEB and the Protektor DR Rear and scores are hitting High Master D: Really learn the process of how to precision reload and acquire the equipment and Tooling. Done, and again score are high Master to High Master range E: Once I KNOW there is nothing more I can do to make this rifle shoot better AND I'm out - shooting the capabilities of rifle and load, then it's time to get a proper F Class Rifle. I'm pretty much there, problem is I kind of want to give F TR a try and see if I like it or Open better...decisions, decisions. Haha. Thanks for watching and the comment!!
Unboxing is fucking stupid .
I experienced with with my caldwell vs a garmin. I am now doubting my pistol ammo because i dont know which is right.
Wait a minute, at 17:40 you say your group was .384 inch/moa, but if you're shooting at 50 yards then there's no way that .384 inch equals .384 moa. Maybe at 100 yds, but not 50.
Yeah at 4:07, I say the rifle was ZEROED at 50 yds. 50 yards is really close to a 200 yd zero and we start SR @ 50 yds, that's why I zero at 50, to me it's easier to get a good grouping/zero than at 200. But, the test fired in this video was done at 100 yds. Sorry for any confusion and thanks for watching!
Hornady guys (Ep 50 or 52) said from tests they've done, the weight difference within a batch of their brass is mostly variation in the extractor groove cut.
Makes sense, sort of
I use a Labradar for MV and a sunscreen chrony for distance. I shoot a number of rounds at the range, then run a 1000 shot Monte Carlo simulation on Microsoft Excel. I then calculate the BC at different distances, true my Ballistic Computer, and I don't have any problems hitting at 1000 yards ...except for wind. I hate wind. If you attribute MV to powder load variance (plot the line, extract the linear equation, then scatter plot the charge variation), you can measure how accurate your powder charges are from round to round. I use it to improve my tolerances.
Good info & a concept I had never considered ! My powder charge variation is now as minimal as possible since I got a Super Trickler and, wind reading skills are moving me into High Master scores. It is definitely an art that requires range time (at distance), intimate knowledge of personal setup and, LOTS of rounds downrange.
For bad windage issues, call the CMP Customer Service. One of my M1s shot way left. Luckily, I’m close to Anniston. I brought the rifle back and they fixed it right up no problem.
Very nice review. I am looking for a better rear bag setup. I normally shoot benchrest long range 600-1000. I'm looking for a bag setup that will work with all three rifles. Previously I've been using old blue jean sand bags and a crown royal squeeze bag. I like making stuff so I might try that route. At one point I was using an old drill press x-y axis base but it is a bit clunky and overkill. but the ability to micro adjust side to side was very nice.
Yeah, I've had a chance to shoot it in 3 matches now and, I LOVE IT! They will custom make the width between the ears, not sure if one could work for all 3 rifles or if you'd need multiple
Bobby is super helpful on any questions you have. And his dog sweet as can be. Helped me pick out a couple of M1s.
Ive had many Hatsans, nothing but trouble.
You're right about getting hung up on choosing gear but rear bag and bipod make quite a difference and Protektor bags are great. Just need to choose the right one for you go through all their menu options of ear size, spacing and finish on the website.
Indeed it does make a difference! I love my Protektor DR rear AND the front rest bag they made for my "Frankenstein" Front Rest. Thanks for watching!!
Where is the assembly link?
I've added this link in the description, thanks! bit.ly/RangeCart
Good review. Just boight a smaller protektor bag. Have to get it out to the range. Do mostly benchrest. Good luck with your fclass this year.
Thanks! Just got to shoot my first match today
Excellent! Thanks for sharing, Chief!🙏💪
My pleasure!
You cannot learn enough from a 3 shot group.
Unless it is a bad group. Then you may have learned all you need to know about that combo.
I disagree and agree. A 3 shot group by itself doesn't tell you a whole lot. But, a 3 shot group that also meets other parameters such as great SD/ES, an OPT and/or OCW node gives fantastic information... to go verify. Check out the 2 videos on load development and accurizing my 6.5 Creedmoor. ruclips.net/video/TeDkqUwkq1E/видео.html ruclips.net/video/YAk96gSewuw/видео.html
Hornady found that true dispersion results can be safely calculated after shooting a 60 round group….seriously. 3 rounds ain’t enough for sure.
Very nice…semper fi
I hope you put a level on that sand to see if it's level!
Nope... gave up on worrying about the Front Rest and bag being level with this setup. The SPHUR mount was mounted perfectly level, the integral mount level reflects that & now the Monstrum too, as well as alignment of the vertical portion of the reticle to a plumb line & the horizontal to a level water line. Problem with this rifle is that the fore end/barrel shroud is just slightly off, making the pick rail M Lok and front bag rider slightly off. So, I adjust the rest to the levels (which are correct) and send it. Thanks for the comment and for watching!
+1 for the tenmile.... best scope for the money... and lighter than any other (the lht feels like junk compared to tenmile)
I TOTALLY agree! The only optic I've directly compared it to that was better was the March Majesta. N.F. Kahles and March High Master were equal to or less than the Tenmile
I try to choose a powder to achieve the velocity I want, that will achieve close to 100% case fill. Nosler data has case fill percentages in their load data. Had good luck with this method.
That is a good method, I also prefer near 100% fill as it minimizes any inconsistent burn across "flat spots" in the powder lying in the case. I would also add seeking the powder that is most temperature tolerant with minimal variations across temp ranges
Thanks for the great comparison.
You're welcome, thanks for watching!
